Jackie – A fanfic that flashes back to the untold story of Jackie Meyer, Mr. Harvey’s first victim in Alice Sebold’s, The Lovely Bones.

The fanfic is imaginative but lacks the mysterious overtone that Sebold achieves in the original. Jackie as the narrator seems too mature for a thirteen-year-old girl; her voice is inconsistent and makes observations that suggest dissatisfaction with life at an unusually early age. Furthermore, the temporal setting of this fanfic doesn’t correlate with the 1960’s setting of the novel making it disjointed. With more character depth and attention to detail, Jackie has the potential to be a good example of fan-fiction.
